Growing up in a military family we moved around often. I have lived in many provinces in Canada. Some were rural and some were urban. Although, there were times when moving broke my heart, I know now as an adult that each new posting shaped me into the person I am today.
Prince Edward Island was one of my most memorable places that we lived. Anne’s land has stayed with me forever. It was the 80’s and Michael Jackson was hot. My sister had a MJ jacket and I had the white glove. We had base dances and red beaches. As a girl, it felt like I was a modern day Anne of Green Gables.
I remember one beautiful summer day my family set out to the beach. The island is often windy and this day was of no exception. The waves were high and so much fun. My brother Leif, my sister Sarahjane and myself, jumped in those waves for hours. We giggled and played. I loved that summer day……it was perfect. Even the smell of cow poop fresh in the fields made for hilarious conversation during the drive home.
This painting “Memories of Prince Edward Island” is for every person who has ever enjoyed the beauty of Anne’s land. I don’t need to tell you that the memories that you make there….last a lifetime.
